Application of NFPA 99 in Health Care Facilities Program

2 Days = 12.5 CECs (1 CEC = 1 contact hour)

Are you ready for your next survey? Have you implemented all NPFA 99 requirements?  These programs will help facilities comply with the 2012 edition of NFPA 99, Health Care Facilities Code, which was adopted by CMS as a Condition of Participation. CMS has made many NFPA 99 requirements retroactive and the number of related citations and observations has increased significantly. These courses are designed to walk facility managers through the new Conditions of Participation. The new deep dive programs will help facility technicians understand provisions of the 2012 edition and specifically focus on the operation and maintenance code requirements.

Topics that are discussed in this course include:

  • Navigating and using NFPA 99
  • System risk categories
  • Gas and vacuum systems
  • Gas equipment
  • Electrical systems
  • Electrical equipment
  • Information and communication systems
  • Plumbing systems
  • Emergency management
  • Security management
  • Fire safety

Program Options

Application of NFPA® 99 in Health Care Facilities: Overview (2 days)

NFPA 99, Health Care Facilities Code provides minimum health care facility requirements covering a broad spectrum of applications. The 2012 edition contains the most extensive changes since the inception of NFPA 99, including the change from a standard to a code and the shift to a risk-based approach. This course examines each topic area covered by the 2012 edition of NFPA 99. Other codes and standards are also referenced by NFPA 99. Where pertinent, these other codes and standards will be examined during this course to provide a more complete understanding of how NFPA 99 is applied to health care facilities.

Application of NFPA 99: Electrical Systems (1 day)

Expand your knowledge of electrical systems during this overview of NFPA 99, Health Care Facilities Code, chapter 6. The one-day course will cover areas of application as well as the inspection, maintenance and testing of electrical systems. The course will expand on essential electrical systems and will detail different electrical equipment and requirements.
